HOW TO FIX BARRIX HUNTER TRAP?
Barrix-Hunter-Installation

Special Note: Trap can be used for many times till the colour of the trap fades.

Step 1: Fix by locking push fit built-in rivets of three wings to the Barrix Hunter Cap.

Step 2: Fix narrow end of the central axle to three grooves given at the bottom of the wings.

Step 3: Place the central axle in the crescent base bowl.

Step 4: Now lock the bottom with push fit built-in rivets of wings to the crescent base bowl

Step 5: Remove the RPW lure from the pouch and place at the lure placement area.

Step 6: Fill the crescent base bowl with water till the overflow hole.

Step 7: Add 5 grams of any detergent / soapnut powder / shampoo to the water and stir.

Step 8: Tie this assembled trap set to the trunk of the tree at 4 – 5ft above the ground level.

Step 9: Frequently refill the water into the crescent base bowl.

The Red Palm Weevil (RPW) is a highly destructive pest that inflicts significant damage on palm trees. Here are some of the key types of damage caused by the Red Palm Weevil in palm trees:

  • Boring into Trunk: Adult female RPWs bore into the trunk of palm trees to lay their eggs. They create tunnels, causing structural damage to the tree and weakening its integrity.
  • Larval Feeding: The RPW larvae, after hatching, feed voraciously on the inner tissues of the palm tree, including the vascular bundles responsible for nutrient transport. This feeding disrupts the flow of nutrients, leading to reduced growth and overall decline of the tree.
  • Stunted Growth: Infested palm trees often exhibit stunted growth due to the damage caused by RPW larvae within the trunk and crown.
  • Wilting and Yellowing: As RPW larvae consume the inner tissues, the palm tree’s leaves start wilting and turning yellow, leading to reduced photosynthesis and eventual defoliation.
  • Frond Damage: The feeding activity of RPW larvae affects the health and vitality of palm fronds, causing them to dry out and collapse prematurely.
  • Crown Collapse: In severe infestations, RPW damage can lead to the collapse of the palm tree’s crown, resulting in its eventual death.
  • Entry of Secondary Pathogens: RPW infestations create entry points for secondary pathogens, such as fungi and bacteria, leading to additional diseases that further weaken the palm tree’s health.
  • Death of Palm Trees: If left untreated, RPW infestations can cause the death of palm trees, resulting in economic losses for farmers and plantation owners.
  • It is essential to implement effective pest management strategies, such as using traps and lures like Barrix Hunter, to control RPW populations and prevent the devastating damage caused by this pest.
